ART DECO

Before this assignment, my knowledge of the Art Deco movement was very superficial and I was unsure about its definitive characteristics which sets it apart from the other art movements. Hence, in order to gain a better understanding of Art Deco, my team decided to expand the scope in our research of Art Deco's influences in different aspects such as history, traditional craft, patterns and paintings, architecture, interior design and jewellery.

Hence, in order to gain a better understanding of Art Deco, my team decided to expand the scope in our research of Art Deco's influences in different aspects such as history, traditional craft, patterns and paintings, architecture, interior design and jewellery.
I felt that even though my team covered a wide range of the Art Deco's influences, the critical analysis of our findings was lacking. The reason being we had a ton of information, however, it lacked our take on it. For example, the captions for the images were mostly descriptive instead of giving the audience a deeper and less apparent insight of the contents in the pictures. Instead of merely verbally stating the object's name or place of origin again, we could explain what was the inspiration or narrative behind it as it helps the audience paint a better mental image which then links back to Art Deco itself.
Aesthetically, I thought the slides could have been less wordy and with bigger fonts to maintain the audience's attention. The slides should have a more cohesive Art Deco inspired design as it provides continuity and helps to set the tone of the presentation.
All in all, I believe that the essence of Art Deco could have been brought across better by looking past the information with more in depth understanding and questioning of our resources as well as designing the presentation in the Art Deco style.
